Story

For more than a century, Kellanova (formerly known as Kellogghas been a global industry leader, driving such iconic brands as Kellogg’s and Pringles.

Being a world leader doesn’t happen by accident, of course. It requires focus and the wisdom to address issues quickly. In 2022, Kellanova identified they had a gap in the leadership development proposition to advance their female talent and combat the beliefs and barriers that prevent them from reaching their full potential. To tackle this challenge, the company partnered with Talking Talent to design a solution.

Challenge

Kellanova had largely achieved gender parity at middle-management level but still had underrepresentation of females at executive levels.

“There was a growing pool of women who were high performers, but what we wanted to do was unlock their potential for more senior positions,” explained Sarah Phillips, HRBP and ED&I at Kellanova. “They were not ‘stuck’ where they were, but there was something blocking them. Maybe it was their self belief, or we just needed something to help open the door.”

Solution

Talking Talent’s Women’s Leadership program: aimed at helping your organisation go from where it is to where it should be.

Results

“We’ve achieved an 83% retention rate of participants in the program,” said Kayleigh Broughton. “And this speaks volumes about the program’s ability to engage and retain female talent: 11% of the participants have been promoted since attending the program.”

Kayleigh also shared that 16% of the program’s participants had since made lateral moves, showing “their willingness and ability to explore new opportunities and thereby broaden their skills and perspectives.”

Going further, Kellanova found a strong correlation between participation in the program and enhanced performance, benefitting both the individual and the organisation. A particularly strong example of this is the fact that some 42% of the participants in the program went on to serve as mentors for participants in the following year program. In addition, 83% of the program participants have either maintained or increased their performance since taking part.
